I have a belief in a deep interconnectedness of humans, animals, and our broader ecosystem. My paintings and drawings question the incursions of science and technology on animal species and the environment. I use painting to explore the communions and divisions of this co-dependency. My recent series, transgenesis, is a response to the contemporary scientific attitude towards genetics: we divide DNA into fragments and splice them together to our choosing. This is part of a larger view of culture immersed in images and information cut up into little bits to be reassembled through blogs and 140 character twitter posts. Comprised of layers of cloned animals, I mimic the combining of disparate genetic material into new forms.
